LJ & Danee's Journey to Africa

The Davises journey started back in 2013 when Danee went on a missions trip to Kenya. Her heart was forever changed with the God given desperation to go there and help his people. After talking with LJ about this unwavering need to go, LJ and Danee ventured back together. LJ stepped in to Kenya and knew - this is now home. Danee’s heart was called to serve in Kenya, LJ’s heart was convicted on following exactly where God would lead. In 2017, LJ, Danee and their 4 kids started sold their house and all of their possessions to go serve the orphans in Africa.

When they arrived, their new home was a glorified hut beside one of the largest slums in Africa. The property was 14 acres of overgrown bush and empty and run down buildings. They spent the first almost two years cutting back the bush, preparing the buildings, bringing in clean water - and hot water - for them, the children and the workers who live onsite, planting gardens and getting beds for the children.

The majority of the girls at Oasis of Hope are rescued from sex trafficking and forced child marriages as early as 5 years old. Some have come from tiny poor villages that have no schools and no food. We also have boys and they come from the slum next to us and other poverty ridden areas.

Some street children have been dropped off by a step parent who doesn’t want to take care of them and they are left to fend for themselves. They join gangs to survive. They start sniffing glue to curb their hunger pains and end up getting addicted. They try to rescue as many as they can from many different horrific situations.

When rescued, all of their children are given free counseling for the trauma they have endured, a free education, three hot meals a day, clothes, a warm bed, and are just able to be little kids again.

Today, there are over 130 children living in the compound with LJ and Danee. They have been restored, made new, through the love, consistency and family that LJ and Danee have given them.
